Pickton Trial Begins
I saw on the evening news that the Pickton murder trial began today.
One of the women that Robert Pickton is charged with killing once sat in my husband's living-room in the house that he grew up in. She was dating his younger brother. I only met her once briefly, although I know she attended my high school the year I graduated. But when I watch the news and see the coverage, it's her I think about. Here is an article about Sherry.
A few years ago, when the land the infamous pig farm was on was being investigated to find the all the women's remains, my brother's partner took part in the investigation for a short time. She is a forensic anthropologist and her job was to watch the conveyor belts of earth moving by and pick out and label material: "bone" or "not bone".
If convicted of the 27 murder charges (and he is suspected of more killings), Pickton will be Canada's worst serial killer ever.
It's a strange feeling to watch a national news story and somehow feel connected.

Eeww, that's creepy.
That's a sad story and I think that our ability to have compassion for someone, even if it's someone we met only briefly, shows how big our heart is.
There are humans in this world devoid of compassion, than goodness there enough others like you to fill the gap.
Thanks for visiting my blog...
I was just getting out of the Army, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, when a mass murderer rammed his truck through the window at Luby's and started shooting. I would have been there except I ran into a friend who offered to buy me lunch at a taco place up the street. At the time, I was armed with a Glock 17 and my friend packed a Baretta 9mm, so there's no telling what would have happened if our lunch plans had gone differently.
This makes me so sad:(
My heart breaks for those women, their friends and families.
What's truly eerie is the thought your brother's current partner may have unearther the reamins of his old girlfriend.
Here we are losing historical Canadian landmarks (the Bay, Fairmont Hotels) to American companies and making history witht the likes of Pickertona nd Bernardo/Homolka. Oh, Canada...:( (sad shake of head).
What we need is another Banting/Best, the Canadian team who discovered insulin. We need a bunch more of them.
Blackcrag, it was my brother's partner on the site, but my HUSBAND'S brother's girlfriend.
But eerie enough, true.
Ah, I got the brothers mixed up. But I still believe it is eerie.
We can only hope to NEVER know what those women went through at that man's hands. NEVER EVER EVER in a 1000 lifetimes. It is so sad, and the closeness just makes it feel more horrible.
