Am I Annoying You? Yeah? I'd Better Get a Lawyer..

I have just come across an article concerning a brand-new law on which George W. Bush has just bestowed his blessing.

Be Annoying, Go to Jail

I'm hoping this article has somehow simplified the situation, but it sounds like the latest royal decree is telling Americans it will now be illegal to post something on or through the internet using a pseudonym if someone finds your message to be annoying in some way.

Not malicious. Not libelous. Not creepy-homicidal-stalker-ish.

Annoying.

This sounds double plus ungood to me.

I guess if you are American and are planning on making a post to your blog under your blogger name, you better check in with Big Brother first to make sure your thoughts are pure and pleasing to the casual reader.

Or else, before you annoy us all and get hauled off to court, make sure you cordially introduce your true identity. Then...hey... go ahead. Irritate us all you like.

I'm kind of glad I'm Canadian at the moment as Spider Girl is not my real name. Yes, my mummy loves me more than that.

So who decides what's annoying anyway?

Will this be someone's cushy government job to scan the internet?

* employee clicking on random blogs* "Wow, this guy sure is annoying! And him too! Whoa, this person's idea is really rubbing me the wrong way too... Gawd, I LOVE my job!"

Bah! Silly, probably unenforceable, waste-of taxpayers-money-type laws. Now they are annoying.

Can I sign up for that job, please?

I have an extraordinary talent for decreeing who is annoying and who isn't!

In fact, I nominate myself immediately!

Well we know who is NOT qualified for that job, I doubt Mr Prez knows how to scan the net!

Ohh that's the BEST picture I've seen of that ....er...man??...yet!

Unreal huh? Oh,if only it was....

To be perfectly fair, Bush is not solely to blame. Congress passed it. You better blast Congress also. But I agree that it possesses too much potential for abuse. Maybe the ACLU will get this eventually declared unconstitutional by our federal court system.

Im not worried. Itll end up being one of those laws that nobody remembers or cares about. Plus its impossible to check. There are many, many laws like that. A funny one is that oral sex is illegal in Maryland. How do you check something like that?

I fail to see how anyone can uphold a law based on such a subjective foundation.

Annoying is not nearly as clear-cut as, oh, say murder.

So, tell me, how do you go about becoming Canadian? :)

Hey, you're not from the US. Rail against your own leaders, assuming you have some. They can't be too good. You still have that Moose infestation after all these years. :p

Hopefully this doesn't become one of those laws we laugh at and assume will be forgotten until some poor slob winds up in jail because of an overzealous prosecutor and crazy judge. I was behind W. when he created the no-call list, but this one has too much potential for abuse.

Bush is probably the most anti-civil-liberties president that the U.S. has ever had, and these type of laws really bother me because they are invasive and don't respect personal freedoms.

Your vote wasn't counted!

You'll need to go to the official voting page for your vote to count:

Sorry for the screw up! I thought everyone was voting via the comment section!

How utterly bizarre... the next thing you know, there'll be roving gangs of armed "anti-annoying" squads arresting anyone with a shrill hyena laugh or shooting people who forget to turn off their cell phone in the movie theatre!

On second thought...

Oh, and, Grant, we Canadians managed to get the Moose Infestation under control. Now we just have to get a handle on the radical anarchistic Polar Bear Militia. *shakes fist at bears*

Can someone please bomb Congress so they can get some folks who actually run the country instead of making stupid laws like this??

Uh oh, I said "bomb Congress." I feel a visit from the NSA is in my near future...
