Happy First Full Moon of the Year!

The ferry workers can almost set their calendars by us. Three or four of us cross over from town to the smaller island by ferry once a month to meet together with our island friends when the moon is full and bright.

One of the crewman cheerily called down to us from above last night: "The full moon's TOMORROW night, ladies! "

"Yes, we know! ", we called back sweetly. "Thank you!"

Happy New Year everyone!

I just wanted to share with you a little part from yesterday evening.

I was standing outside in the wintry air in my friend's backyard. My head was tilted back, I was just looking up at the sky and feeling the moonlight on my face. All day long it had squalled with rain, but now the air was curiously balmy for January and the stars peeped out of a beautiful black sky lit by an amazing ripe moon.

This is my resolution, my intention, for 2007:

Life rushes by too fast sometimes and I have a habit of always looking forward to the next thing, sometimes forgetting to live in the present.

I would like to just STOP, like I did last night, more often in my life and just look around myself unhurriedly, and feel what comes to my senses.

We were very near the ocean and I could hear soft waves from the beach. There was a full creek rushing with water somewhere in the woods nearby. The grass beneath my feet squished with moisture. A farm gate creaked in the occasional gusts of wind that lifted our hair and played with it. The welcoming smell of woodsmoke from my friend's stove drifted by me...

For maybe twenty minutes, we all just stood without words and enjoyed the beauty of being alive and in nature.

I wish my friends and readers lots of that good feeling in 2007!

Lovely post! And a deserving resolution too. Often when I do stop and take in my surroundings, I'm overcome with a feeling of my insignificance in the world. Earth and Nature are just so much larger than we are don't you think? It tends to make me realize that the crap I dealt with at work that day just doesn't mean anything. I find it very refreshing to ground myself once and a while - hope you do too.

Happy New Year to you!

Happy New Year too!

Too often we are carried away by the rush of life and seldom do we stop to actually feel life around us...

Hi Spider

For the last two days the moon here has been amazing as well, which is unusual in that I can usually tell what our weather is going to be in three days by the weather you talk about. This is the first time it's been the same...

For me your new years resolution wouldn't work because I'm always doing that anyways. I love just sitting out on the back porch and just listening and watching whats going on around me...

Cheers & Happy New Years...

I feel I was there! I LOVE those moments of clarity, the here and now moments when the senses are awake and the mind (and heart) absorb the input like cool clear water to a thirsty soul! Ah.... what a lovely resolution, I think I should join you in that one.

You set an awfully inviting scene there and I could almost smell and feel it. But, I still want winter to be over.
Happy New Year to you and yours,
Ian

Well!
I left a post and it's gone gone gone...guess I'll just cherish that feeling. :)

Yes. The full moon and taking a deep breath and enjoying the moment.
Lovely post!
Lovely friend!!

I never make the new years resolutions. They feel too much like people telling me what to do. And I seem to rail against that as much as I can, for no good reason.

Although I like the idea of slowing down just a bit. If one listens to those who came before us, most regrets seem to be lack of enjoyment of what is now, at hand.

Happy new year!

Mr. Blackbelt gave me a quote once along the lines of "I often forget the sky." Since then, I have made a conscious effort not to do just that. May this night of yours be that gentle reminder as well. And may the new year bring blessings on you.

Happy New Year... and may all the full moons in this new year shine down on you.
I was viewing our first full moon, looking out over the water up here in the Great Bear Rain Forest, inbetween bouts of cloud cover pushed by storm force winds. Living in the moments with Mother Nature.
Cheers to you and Jeff.

Great post...

Nature scares me though...

I want to build a parking lot on it. ;)
