Happy New Year everybody!
May 2008 bring you interesting conversations, time with friends, renewed creativity, and good books to read!
(Yep, just wishing you all what I'd like for myself...seems only fair).
Me, I've been writing in a luscious new red journal---yes, pen on paper instead of hands on keyboard. It's been a while since I've indulged in that perhaps old-fashioned habit but I'm rather enjoying it.
I visited with friends I hadn't seen in a while over the holidays and the talk turned to writing. I mentioned that I had a blog (sadly neglected but only for the moment) and invited them to read it if they liked. They had no idea I had one, or indeed really what that was. I explained that it was a good way to keep in touch with people I seldom saw, and a fantastic shared writing outlet.
"But anybody can read it!", said a friend, sounding alarmed.
This is true. But I assured them I only share in my blog what I'm willing to share and no more--truly private thoughts would only be written in my private journal.
"But what would happen if somebody read that one? What if you'd written something about them that they didn't like?" My friend was frowning.
I laughed and said then they'd be in big trouble for reading my journal, but I guess they'd know me better. (Of course, this reminded me of what happened to poor Harriet the Spy---I just re-read that book over the holidays.)
"But what if you died, and then everyone read what you wrote?" She sounded really alarmed.
I couldn't help but laugh again. I said words to the effect that I can only hope that my life is exciting enough for everybody to want to read them after I die.
(Note to self: Write more interesting things in journal so post-humously I don't bore everybody silly.)

Happy New Year! I don't think you have to worry about boring us silly... although, really, does one worry about much, when one is dead?
I've considered a large, viking-style pyre of journals to be lit during my wake, fueled by vodka and the singing of raunchy songs and accordian tunes. But that's just one idea. :)
Well, the other answer to that last question is "I'll be dead. What will it matter then?"
It has occurred to me that blogging is a modern day version of Samuel Pepys' work, and that we are are own Boswells, the guy who ran around after Samuel Johnson, writing all Johnson's words down for prosperity.
At least Johnson had someone do it for him. It is rather vainglorious of us to think anyone would care about our personal thoughts that much.
Oh, and Happy New Year.
Cheers to vainglory!
I'll read them, if I still can. And I'll pull Kimber's off the bonfire while I'm at it.
Somehow, dear SpiderGirl, I don't think you will bore your posthumous readers. In fact, you might want to consider selling the publishing rights now.
Ciao Spidergirl
Your blog and journals(the ones I'm
allowed to see), never bore me,But,
I guess I'm supposed to say that.
Love,Mom
Yes, you do need to get more exciting for your journal, at least. Stage a coup, won't you?
Happy new year, girlie!
I remember when my boyfriend found my journal... my exploits before him were not well received. He insited I burn them even though it was before I even knew him. I know my husband would be even more upset than the boyfriend was! So I don't write down any of my most interesting thoughts anymore. It would be noce to have a place to though. Some encripted blogspace that was my innermost thoughts a place to therapeutically go back to from time to time to put the present into perspective....
Everyone is more famous dead than alive. My secret fear is that the FBI and CSIS are caching blogs to use against us in future witch hunts. I think some commie rhetoric may have slipped into mine from time to time so I'd best be careful. You should bury your journals in a safe so that when someone does dig them up and read them, we'll all be dead and they'll be... primary historical sources!
I have a friend that is like that about my Myspace page...."so everyone can see it??" She asked, She thinks I am going to be killed by a cyberstalker or something.
As far as my blog, I dont censure myself at all, maybe I should.
I love Harriet the Spy!
lol, happy new year. Don't think that you will bore people when you die. Glad you had a good break.
Ah yes, there is a fine line between being brutally honest and somewhat diplomatic. Do we bore the readers or we we risk insulting someone? I try to write somewhere in between.
Sometimes I leave messages in my private book-journals for people to find after I'm dead. Not exciting ones, basically just suggestions for thesis topics.
