A Camel Called Sungura: A Year Ago Today

Have you ever noticed when you set yourself a deadline the time just flies by?

A whole year has flown past and I'm still working on putting my journal from my trip to Africa last summer on my travel blog.

Thing is, I said I'd finish it before a year had passed and I'm cutting it pretty close. Today I'm working on the journal entries for September 7, 2005 and if I'm not mistaken it's the 4th of September of this year. So that's why I haven't been writing much in my regular blog this week.

Last year, on September the 4th I was riding a camel out to visit the Maasai village of Meserani in Tanzania.

Now you can go to my travel blog and read the entire account of that if you like (the link is at the left margin of this page), but in a nutshell I chose a very nice camel with a flair for individuality and he decided to break the rope tethering him to the rest of the caravan.

Sungura the Camel danced nimbly away from the camel handler (that's the fellow in purple) and resisted all attempts to be roped again for a few minutes.

So there I was, taking pictures and looking down from the tall back of a camel, and laughing my head off. Good times, my friends, good times!

I crossed something off my "Things to Do Before I Die List" that day.

What's on your list?

I put things on my list AFTER I've completed them.

Makes me feel more successful that way!

Seriously though,I think I'll put Thailand on my list.
And maybe flying a helic...hmmm, done.
Perhaps evading the police in a shiny red sports ca....oh. check.
Settling down and going back to school and establishing an interesting, fulfilling career?
Hey, that's new!

You know what? You sound like the most interesting person I've come across in a VERY long time.

I found myself gawking at camels just yesterday at the Zoo. They are fascinating aren't they? It must have been fun to experience them in real life, in the desert.

Haha :)
I think the runaway camel thing just made it onto my list!

Africa and camels. Wow. I usually pick the slowest line at the grocery store. And that's not picture worthy. You get a run away camel. It is as it should be - you are far better with words and pictures. I envy those who get to travel. I think it should be a required class in High School.

Hey Spider Girl!

I like those camel pix!

I'll definitely check out your Travel Blog in the near future!

As for the "To Do List"...I guess going to Australia is on there...and we're going next year...(We'll avoid the stingrays while scuba diving though...Poor Steve Irwin...We were gonna visit his zoo too...and probably still will, but it won't be the same without him there)...

Anyway, I hope you're doing well.

Take care out there, Spider Girl.

Your Pal,

Zambo.

Camels actually *are* on my list. seriously. As is eating spaghetti in the Medina; trekking the rain forest; and a trip to Ireland that's more than just a tourist-y type o'thing. Oh ~ and the South Pacific. And Nepal. And I want to feed the marsupials in Tazmania. Take my nephew to Egypt. I'd better stop now or this will be a post in and of itself!

A quick note to Tai: go back to school, establish an interesting and fulfilling career. Don't settle down. I don't think you'd take to it. ;)

Were you afraid being on the runaway camel?
You said you laughed, so I'm assuming not too badly scared :)

Those are great pics. Can't wait to read about your trip. I am guilty of having a ton of things to do. Still have not scrap booked my last trip to DC which was, oh about 5 years ago.
